Samba is the national dance of Brazil and the strength and soul of the country. Even though in Brazil Samba remains a solo form in other countries it evolved into a partner dance and was standardized as a ballroom dance in 1956.

The Samba is a Brazilian rhythmical dance. There are three steps to every bar of music so it kind of feels like a type step in 3/4 time. There are several different Samba steps, and there is also Ballroom Samba which differs from the original Brazilian Samba. The Samba has always been a popular form of dance seeing as it has became known outside of Brazil. Samba is a kind of ballroom dance in the American rhythm complement of dances with strong roots in African rhythms brought by immigrants from the Brazilian state of Bahia. Samba dancing is the national dance of Brazil and with Brazils famous Rio de Janeiro Carnival and glamorous feathered samba dancers. The Samba music rhythm has been danced in Brazil ever since it's beginning in the late 19th century.
There is really a set of dances, rather than a single dance, that define the Samba dancing scene in Brazil; thus, no one dance can be claimed with certainty as the "original" Samba style.
