The month of Elul is the ultimate month in the Jewish year. This month is a mainly propitious time for prayer, self introspection, & repentance. It is a time of intense spiritual preparation for the coming year & the upcoming holiday of Rosh Hashanah. Rosh Hashanah is the first and second days of the first Jewish month of Tishrei. It marks the beginning of the Jewish New Year.
The celebration of this holiday is marked among solemnity, as it is the day on which the whole world is judged for the coming year. Rosh Hashanah is the birthday of the world, as it was on this day that G-d created Man on the 6th day of creation. Every year, on this day, we proclaim G-d as our one & true King. Rosh Hashanah is a Jewish holiday usually referred to as the Jewish New Year. It is observed on the first day of Tishrei, the seventh month of the Hebrew calendar.
Rosh Hashanah is the first of the High Holidays /Yamim Noraim/Asseret Yemei Teshuva which are days specifically set aside to focus on repentance that wind up with the holiday of Yom Kippur. Rosh Hashanah is the start of the civil year in the Hebrew calendar .It is the New Year for people, animals, &legal contracts. The Mishnah also sets this day aside as the New Year for calculating calendar years and sabbatical & jubilee years. Rosh Hashanah commemorates the creation of man whereas five days previously, on 25 of Elul, marks the first day of creation.
