Ramadan or Ramadhan or Ramazan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar. Ramadan is one of the holy months in the Islamic calendar. Fasting in the month of Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. The name came from the time before the Islamic calendar, when the month of Ramadan fell in the summer.
Fasting during this month is often thought to burn away all sins. Muslims believe that the Qur'an was sent down to the earth during this month. Also, the Prophet Muhammad told his followers that the gates of Heaven would be open all the month and the gates of Hell would be closed. The first day of the next month is spent in celebrations and is observed as the "Festival of Breaking Fast" or "Eid ul-Fitr".
Ramadan Celebrations
Ramadan is the month of fasting for all the Muslims, during Ramadan they have meals twice a day, one before the sunrise called suhoor and the other after the sunsets called Iftar.Ramadan celebrations can be felt among all the Muslims specially the children who learn a lot of religious doings only by viewing their parents. Early in the morning Muslims go to mosque to pray, also before both the meals they recite Ramadan dua's and thank Allah for all that he has given to them. All these prayers and meals are accompanied by all the family members and the near and dear ones including their neighbors and friends. All of them celebrate Ramadan by having a get together to feel the occasion of Ramadan. Muslims celebrate the month of Ramadan by having delicious home cooked food during the If tar meals. For millions of Muslims around the world, the holy month of Ramadan is not solely a period to keep the stomach empty during the day but Ramadan is a time for spiritual purification achieved through fasting, self-sacrifice and it is a time for spiritual purification achieved through fasting.
