Ram Navami Celebrations

Ram Navami is a celebration of the birth of lord Rama. People across the country observe it as an auspicious day and celebrate it whole-heartedly with great fun and joy. Temples are decorated and readings of the Ramayana take place. Along with Shri Ram, people also worship Sita, ama's wife; Lakshman, Rama's brother; and Hanuman, an ardent devotee of Ram and the leader of Rama's army in battle. Temples of Rama have special services and bhajan sessions through the day. Stories from the Ramayana are read out in joyous public gatherings and satang.

Ram Navami Date 2014

In 2014, Ram Navami is celebrated on Sunday, 8th of April. Most people fast until midnight. They break their fast with a Prasad of fruits and milk. One significant and popular element of the celebration is the Ramayana parayana, a discourse on the Ramayana, by a pundit or a professional story-teller. It usually lasts nine days. A skilled story-teller who can liven up the event by weaving in contemporary events attracts massive crowds.

The main significance behind the celebration of this festival is that the character of Lord Ram signifies an ideal son, an upright husband, a righteous King, and a loving brother and even an ideal man, someone who follows the right path against all odds in life.

Ram Navami Date

Ram navami Festival is a big religious festival for Hindu peoples of India. Ram navami date falls on the Navami, ninth day of the Chaitra month of Hindu lunar year in 'Shukla paksha' or waxing moon, thus named Chaitra Masa Suklapaksha Navami, and marks the end of nine-day Chaitra-Navratri celebrations.

At some places the festival lasts, the whole nine days of the Navratras, thus the period is called 'Rama Navratra' Rama is the hero of the Hindu epic, Ramayan, it is marked by continuous recitals, Akhand Paath, mostly of the Ramacharitamanas, organized several days in advance to culminate on this day, with elaborate bhajan and kirtan singing, and distribution of prasad after the puja and aarti.

Ram Navami Festival
