Makar Sankranti Khichdi
Makar Sakranti is popularly known as khichadi Sakranti because on this day the command to eat Khichadi is normally observed by people. Makar Sankranti is called Khichadi or Til Sakranti in north India. On Makar Sankranti, the devotees take a holy dip in holy river Ganga & Ganga Sagar at different places. Sometimes, a lot of people call it "Khichdi' in Hindi speaking region. Taking a dip in one of the most popular holy rivers is considered auspicious.
On this day, the one-month long Magh mela starts at Prayag. Khichdi is an Indian dish made from rice and lentils. It is considered a delicious and comfort food in the northern regions where it is served very plain and bland. It is khichdi that is first given to babies in Northern India, when they are ready for solid food.
