Holocaust Remembrance Day

History reveals that 'The Holocaust' was the systematic, administrative, oppression and killing of approximately six million Jews by the Nazi regime and its coworkers. It has been more than 60 years since then; the survivors of the Holocaust remember the sacrifice of 6 million Jews on The Holocaust Remembrance Day. On this day, they try to teach others about the horrors of the slaughter, The Holocaust.

They encounter the questions regarding what had happened. How did it happen? Can it happen again? They make an effort to challenge the ignorance with education and fight against disbelief. The word "Holocaust" has got Greek origin meaning "sacrifice by fire." The Nazis, who came to power in Germany in January 1933, believed that Germans were "racially superior" and that the Jews, those who were seen as "inferior," were supposed to be a threat to German racial community.

Holocaust Remembrance Day 2014

The Holocaust Remembrance Day 2014 will be celebrated on 27th April. It should be noted here that within a Jewish calendar, a holiday starts on the sunset of previous day. So, Jews will start celebrating The Holocaust Remembrance Day on the sunset of 27th April i.e. on Sunday and end on the sunset of 28th April i.e. on Monday. Holocaust Remembrance Day activities include candle lighting, speakers, poems, prayers, and singing. In general, six candles are ignited to epitomize six million. Holocaust survivors share their experiences with other people. Some ceremonies have people read from the Book of Names for certain lengths of time in an effort to remember those that died and to give an understanding of the huge number of victims. Sometimes, these ceremonies are held in a cemetery or near a Holocaust memorial.
