Brazilian samba music and song is full of passion, of sentiment, of joy. It is the result of a long simmering mix of tradition from AmerIndian, Portuguese and African meeting global influences to create a magical, mystical music. Samba music has African roots, beginning in from of Afro Brazilian dance, the Samba de Roda, which is still alive in Bahia in Northern Brazil.
The samba exists across Brazil in the form of different rhythms and regional folk dances. Samba is not just a form of music and dance, it is also a broader cultural phenomenon. As well as the musical style, samba also carries other cultural markers; foods cooked on special occasions, and a variety of dances, parties, and events. Samba also supports a large number of artists and musicians, who write and perform the songs, design and make the costumes, decorated floats, clothing and other aspects of the parades of the Brazilian Samba Schools.
