Baisakhi Day

Baisakhi day is one of the major celebrations of Sikhs and has celebrated with lot of zest and joviality in the state of Punjab and all throughout the world where there is a large Sikh population.

Sikhs community celebrates this festival as the day of the formation of the Sikh Khalsa. In year 1699, on this day, Guru Gobind Singh the tenth Sikh guru called on the Sikhs to surrender themselves for their community. In its present form, Sikhism owes its survival to that Baisakhi day. After the Baisakhi day of the year 1699, the tradition of Gurus was put to an end by the Sikhs. After that, there have declared the Guru Granth Sahib as their everlasting guide and their holy book.

Vaisakhi Day Events and Celebration

Sikhs community celebrates this very important day of their religion with joy and loyalty. On this day, people usually wake up early to get ready for Baisakhi celebrations. After getting ready, people traditionally pay a visit to the neighborhood gurudwara and get part in the special prayer meetings organized for the special day. At the ending of the prayer meet, the devotees obtain specially prepared Kara prasad (sweet prepared with semolina).

On the day of Vaisakhi celebration, everyone gears up to the event by following the different traditions of Vaisakhi. There are bhangra and gidda performances the most eye catching sight in this festival. Following the Baisakhi day festival traditions, the Sikhs visit nearest temple, where the holy Granth is read out. After over the traditions, there is majestic feasting, music and dancing among the people who participate in the Baisakhi day celebrations. This festival includes fireworks, shopping new clothes and a grand feast. The fair has also organized on this day of Vaisakhi and also the major activities have organized in gurudwaras as this festival carries a lot of significances in the Sikh religion.
